Three songs

This set of three songs for high voice and piano explores various moods of nature and intimate emotional landscapes. Each song presents an individual expressive world, yet together they form a unified whole that guides the listener through a narrative of beginning, transience, and perseverance.

• As the Morning Was Dawning gently portrays the birth of a new day. The piece opens with a subtle piano accompaniment that evokes the soft glow of dawn, while the soprano line lyrically celebrates the tenderness of awakening, both in nature and the human spirit.

• The icy flowers introduces a contrast, musically more restrained, with icy transparency in its harmonies and articulation. The musical language reflects fragility, beauty, and ephemerality, intertwining cold clarity with a touch of delicate melancholy.

• Fidelity brings the cycle to a close with a flowing vocal line and warm harmonic colour. The soprano exudes inner strength and devotion, supported by a gentle yet resolute piano accompaniment.

All three songs are characterized by refined sonorities, a sensitive interplay between voice and piano, and a strong lyrical quality, hallmarks of Jereb’s vocal writing.
